This house introduced Postmodern, in no uncertain terms, to the architecture of this scenic drive. Unrevealing from the outside, the one-story residence, cloaked in Italian travertine and rose-colored Mexican stone, is organized around a central axis carried through a progression of modular spaces that start at an entrance court, move through the interior, and terminate at the rear of the site, where sets of paired columns line a walkway that terraces down to the sea. With a commanding presence over its bayshore setting, the house, unrestricted by modernist parameters, is free to evoke the image of an ancient Pompeian villa.
