Both of these five-bay, two-and-one-half-story, central-chimney houses have the type of attached entrance porch with a pediment lightly supported on flanking columns which is most particularly associated with Union Village in North Smithfield. In both the supports are something between posts and columns: more post at the Brown Homestead, where the porch was added over an earlier door capped with a simple rectangular transom; more column at the Aldrich House, where side lights in addition to the transom and a lighter treatment throughout indicate more sophisticated awareness of the aesthetics of the Federal style. (The Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission has located two other examples in Scituate, the first of late date and the second early: the Tanner House on Trimtown Road and the Westcott Farm on Westcott Road.)
