This one-and-one-half-story duplex of stuccoed rubblestone is an important survivor from a no longer extant textile chemical works built in 1849 behind it on the precipitous slope down to Dry Creek. Few workers' houses built of stone exist in the state, very few as nicely maintained as this. Some have been shrouded, like the next-door companion of this pair. (At least one other nearby in Upper Simmonsville has also been buried under renovation.)
