1767, John Reynolds, builder. 294 Main St. (corner of Dedford and Main sts.)

Around the time of the Revolution, John Reynolds built a group of houses that introduced more sophisticated planning and design to East Greenwich. Local tradition maintains that this is the first brick building in East Greenwich. Although the gambrel roof and low ceilings were retardataire by the late 1760s, the center-hall plan was a stylish change from the traditional center-chimney plan. The plan is particularly interesting for its paired chimneys on the outer walls with angled corner fireplaces in each of the four rooms on both floors.
