Historically important because the field opposite was a campsite for French forces commanded by General Rochambeau on the way to and from the battle of Yorktown, this tavern is architecturally interesting as an earlier, country-cousin version of the five-bay formula just seen in a later, more sophisticated version. The elements of the facade are more loosely arranged here, with a simple, transomed door slightly askew both of the midpoint of the elevation and of the center chimney.
