This large, brick house was built for brothers James S. and Alexander P. Waugh, local merchants and newspaper editors. It has a five-bay, central-hall plan, with such elegant detailing as stepped, interior end chimneys and a tripartite center window. It may be the design of Robert Gillis Mossman, an Irish carpenter and woodworker who was active in the area at the time. The three-bay porch sheltering the entrance with a ruby glass fanlight appears to date from the 1870s based on its turnings. The house has been updated periodically, most recently by the Greenville Historical Society, who restored it between 2002 and 2004. There is a frame, four-bay, two-story wing on the north elevation.
