An Irish couple, John and Mary Hoye, built this large building, four bays long, as a hotel and stage stop along the road from Dayton to Aurora. The building is in excellent condition and appears to have changed little over the years, except for the screening of the front porch and the addition of a small side porch over the east entrance. The cornice returns and corner boards ending in capitals are among the few ornamental touches. The Hoyes also built the Wellington Mercantile (c. 1883) next door.
