Samuel Wineman constructed this two-story building with two twenty-five-foot-wide storefronts, one containing the H. L. Wineman Clothing Store and the other housing the E. J. Chamberlin Ladies’ Store. On the upper story, Wineman developed an impressive 500-seat opera hall as a contribution to local culture. In 1909, D. L. Bangs erected the Bangs addition to look like a separate building in a classical commercial style, with dentiled cornicework and seashell-shaped coquillion carvings in red sandstone on both sides of the raised parapets.
