The projecting center section of the school lies between balancing two-story wings of classrooms. Square stair towers define the corners of the central section. Between them is a row of two-story round-arched windows that is shielded by a pent roof clad with tiles. Hanging in the auditorium are four murals painted in 1938 by Gerald Mast of Detroit. They depict the gas, oil, and agriculture industries of the community and the academic and recreational activities of the school and were sponsored by the Federal Art Project of the WPA. The murals were restored in 2004. A sculpture, The Pioneer Mother, created by Samuel Cashwan (1899–1988), is in front of the building. The artwork is rumored to have been the first sponsored by the WPA for an outstate Michigan school.
