This elegant three-story Beaux-Arts classical building was designed by a leading Baltimore architect for the ale and beer brewers’ guild of Baltimore. Baltimore was a national center of the brewing industry, largely due to the imported expertise of its German immigrants. The Brewers’ Exchange both offered a venue to negotiate prices for brewing-related commodities and securities and became a striking symbol of the accomplishments of the local industry. At this midpoint in Sperry’s prolific career he was the sole partner in his firm. The richly decorated terra-cotta facade was fabricated by the New York Architectural Terra-Cotta Company.
