Mary Pickard Winsor and Mrs. F. B. Brooks founded Winsor School, a day school for girls, in 1886; after six different sites on Beacon Hill, Winsor moved in 1910 to this seven-acre campus on the Riverway. R. Clipston Sturgis designed the U-shaped Tudor Revival core (1910), with parapeted gable roofs, oriels, and quoin-framed Gothic casement windows. Other than a 1924 gymnasium by J. Lovell Little, subsequent buildings are additions to the core that, to varying degrees, respect the original: New Wing (1963, Bastille and Halsey Associates), Library (1980, Perry, Dean, Stahl and Rogers), and Science Center (1986, Charles Tseckares of CBT/Childs Bertman Tseckares and Casendino). Robert Brown of CBT designed the two latest projects, a 1993 gymnasium renovation and a library/classroom addition to the Sturgis core in 1998.
