This limestone office building served as the headquarters for the Salada Tea Company. The classical entrance, with its bronze doors' cast figures, celebrates the great imperial tea companies of the British Empire. Designed by English artist Henry Wilson, the bronze doors with their elephants represent images of the Ceylonese tea trade. The doors, cast by the Gorham Company, won a silver medal at the Paris Salon in 1927. The carved stone figures on the pilasters and entablature, as well as Greek deities nestled in the broken pediment, are the work of French sculptor Caesar Caira. Without its carved and cast ornament, this limestone office building would remain unexemplary.
