1900, Murphy and Ralston. 320 Mulberry St.

Saint Joseph's was described as “French Gothic” when it was built, though the basic format is nineteenth-century medieval. The corner tower is crowned by a high roof with narrow facets. The warm-orange brick walls create smoothly flowing surfaces, suggesting an early twentieth-century building rather than a traditional medieval design of masonry. This same weightless quality is equally apparent within. The real gem of this church complex is the children's chapel. This dollhouse of a Gothic chapel seats six and has its own miniature pipe organ.
