The five-room, bungalow-style school, with its broad lanai corridors tucked under the corrugated-metal, gable-roofed main body, was saved from demolition in 1987 when Gaylord and Carol Wilcox moved the building to this location as a focal point for a new shopping complex. Thanks to the efforts of Designare Architects, a remarkable amount of original design, material, and detail were preserved in the conversion from educational to commercial facility, including the sand-painted exterior walls, wire-mesh band of transoms, window bracketing, and shallow restroom wings.
