Toniest of all the Telluride accommodations, this $90 million Post-modern monument of concrete is dressed up with copper roofs and chimney pots. Eight-to-ten-story buildings crowd a spectacular site on the edge of the Telluride Ski Area. Asked to design a 465,000-square-foot hotel complex on a 5.5-acre site, the architects tried to lessen its impact by making it look like a cluster of separate buildings rather than a monolith. They also strove to tie it to the environment by using red sandstone at ground level, but failed to bring this monster to earth.
