This Second Empire home, in a block-long willow grove known as Pioneer Park, was built by Henry Webber, a shoe salesman who became a prominent businessman and a mayor of Aspen. His career was unhampered by rumors about the poisoning of his wife that circulated shortly before he married his niece. The Paepckes purchased the one-story brick mansard-roofed house as a summer home in 1945 and used the matching, attached carriage house to accommodate guest celebrities such as Albert Schweitzer and Walter Gropius.
