Fascination with the 1920s excavation of King Tutankhamen's tomb inspired an architectural idiom that reached even smalltown America. Fallis, the Denver architect who designed Denver's Mayan Theater, gave Delta one of Colorado's few surviving examples of Egyptomania. This theater's one-story Egyptian Deco facade is mostly intact, as are the two-story stage box in back of the building and sixteen carved Egyptian busts inside. “Delta County Ranks First in Everything with the Most Modern Theater in the Best Town in Colorado,” crowed the Delta County Independent in a headline of September 28, 1928, followed by an article describing the Egyptian as “verily a treasure chest with jewel lights that gleam and glow all colors of the rainbow.”
