This single-story, gable-roofed, L-plan house with a small south addition was originally located at the nearby Gatfield Mine. It is covered in narrow clapboard siding, dressed up by a bay window and turned porch balustrade spindles. It was moved here and placed on a Lyons sandstone foundation around 1910. William E. Lewis, a miner, bought it in 1913, and it remained in his wife's possession until her death in 1975. Since then it has been converted to a museum of coal mining history. The back yard contains an old outhouse and a much rarer sight: a decaying coal shed surrounded by a pile of clinkers.
