Located on the site of the former Presidential Hotel, Presidential Plaza recalls the Art Deco and Streamline Moderne apartment houses formerly in Downtown West. The eight-story Presidential Plaza includes a clock tower to anchor the corner, from which strips of polished light and dark pink granite trace the line of each floor. At the first floor, the rows of granite strips resemble rustication and form an agreeable frame for the retail outlets. Balconies are provided at the corners of the building and on either side of the tower. With the success of its Republic Place and Presidential Plaza, the firm of Keyes Condon Florance joined forces with Hartman-Cox and Skidmore, Owings and Merrill to bring a new style of office building to the District's commercial core.
