1991, Caudill, Gustafson, Ross and Associates. Northeast corner of Mill and Main sts.

For this library Samuel J. Caudill, a veteran Aspen activist-architect, chose the flattened roofs, overhanging eaves, and rectangular banded windows of the Prairie Style instead of something more indigenous. The red brick library, with its distinctive entry clock tower, shares a plaza with the 1984 Justice Center, including jails and a juvenile center, by the same architects. Confronting the buildings from across the plaza is an equestrian Don Quixote, made of chrome car bumpers.
