This Reconstruction-era double house was remodeled for department store owner B. H. Levy in 1897, adding a fourth story fronted by a metal (faux tile) mansard roof and robust dormers

that boldly punctuate the floor level below. A mid-level decorative frieze and elaborate, curved window bays faced in marble project over the arched entrance stoops to produce a decidedly theatrical and exuberant effect.
