This prominent frame structure on a high brick basement is all that survives from the Maryland Military Academy. Founded by General Tench Tilghman in the late 1840s, it was intended to be a preparatory school for the U.S. Naval Academy. The original complex of Greek Revival buildings caught fire in 1855, and only this superintendent’s residence survived. The Bratt family owned this house from the 1860s until 1965.
