1972, Edward Durell Stone and Associates, with Cantrell and Company. 2200 S. Van Buren St.

The Arts Center consists of four rectilinear brick-faced buildings with minimal window openings. These are set in a pinwheel plan and connected by circulation plazas. The four buildings are a concert hall, an experimental theater, a music building, and the art museum. This unassertive interpretation of Brutalism represented the Stone office’s effort to distance itself from the delicate concrete solar screens for which Stone of New York City achieved prominence in the 1950s.
