Although small in size, the bold facade of the two-story red brick building is the only Romanesque Revival design in Hillsboro. A dramatic entrance arch, nearly the width of the facade, is formed of wide brick voussoirs edged with rock-faced stone. Three central second-floor windows are grouped with

a rock-faced stone still and lintel that extend to the edges of the facade, and a central gable-as-pediment is buttressed by crenellated corner piers. The Western Union office, operating here from 1918 to 1956, was the hub of cotton-trading activity for the region.
