This, the fifth county courthouse on this site, replaced a brick courthouse of 1889 by Eugene T. Heiner that burned in 1968. The brick building is a modern interpretation of Greek Revival forms, with a two-level wraparound gallery and a hipped roof similar to a Louisiana plantation house.
