The limestone former city hall is one of the most monumental classical schemes in the state. Above a raised basement, solid corner bays bracket a central range of ten, three-story tall Corinthian columns. The entablature that wraps the entire building is capped with a deep cornice over large modillions. The recessed attic story, concealed behind a balustrade, is topped with a mansard roof with small oriel dormers. On November 24, 1963, Jack Ruby shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald in the basement of this building on live national television.
