This historic cornerstone of what has become the DCPA complex opened July 4, 1908, to host the Democratic National Convention. It was second in size only to Madison Square Garden at the time. Its Neoclassical design, in beige brick with terracotta trim, follows that of an auditorium in St. Paul, Minnesota. Along with weekend and evening concerts, it has hosted everything from opera to auto shows, with flags flying from its domes and light bulbs outlining its pediments, domes, dentiled cornice, and quoined corners. The auditorium received a facelift in the early 1990s when part of it reopened as the Temple Hoyne Buell Theater.
