This circular masonry building was originally the town water tower and firehouse and is constructed of more than four hundred thousand bricks and has thirty-two-inch-thick walls. In 1926, local Confederate veterans were granted use of the abandoned water tower as their meeting place. Houston architect Lewis M. Wirtz removed the wood cistern and added crenellations. The tower has served as a museum since 1962.
