Rock Creek Park and Northwest Washington

Northwest Washington has retained extensive natural areas, either as public parks and parkways or as large institutional grounds. In combination with its pervasive suburban neighborhoods, these open, often wooded, spaces have extended L'Enfant's original vision of the city as a picturesque environment from its central core into its outlying districts.
