In Patrick County, a number of early general stores and filling stations have survived because they get an infusion of tourist dollars during good weather. Here the frame, gable-end store has a gabled front porch that served as a drive-through for vehicles being serviced below and provided a sitting porch for the storekeeper's residence above.
