Although much of the commercial area of Independence is typical of early-twentieth-century downtowns, with one- and two-story brick buildings, it has a few prominent exceptions, notably this store. The Gothic Revival, one-story, board-and-batten building has a gable-front facade, deeply scalloped vergeboards, and two-over-two sash windows flanking the central front entrance.
