This summer cottage is a striking example of early Vermont camp architecture with an extensive, three-sided, two-story Stick Style porch and two open cupolas at either end of the hipped roof, each with balusters using eight oars raised as finials. Built as a camp for the Hammett brothers, it was originally divided for two families, each having its own symmetrical portion of the front section, porches, and crow's nest lookout. By building here, the Hammetts joined Ferncliff, the first summer colony on Lake St. Catherine, founded by Norman Burdick of Albany, who built his camp here in 1884 and then built a dock on the point nearby, where he ran a picnic park between 1885 and 1900 that offered lawn bowling and evening concerts.
