Nasonville boasts a prominent regional landmark in the Western Hotel, originally named for the Walling family, which established it. It is the double porch of this much revamped establishment which catches the eye—a feature which seems to go back to its Victorian remodeling. But behind the porch its origins in a plain, five-bay Federal building with center chimney are discernible. Probably opened as an inn when the turnpike was built, it served as a coach stop and tavern for the Providence-Douglas stage. Across the pike from the hotel is a fine stone-arched bridge (1907; reinforced concrete guard rails added in 1924), which carries Victory Highway over the Branch River.
