A gift of Wilkes-Barre's Kirby family, the center features intricate tile work on the ceiling of the front portico and a breathtaking tile and marble interior hall with details taken from such wide-ranging sources as the Casa de Pilatos, Seville, Spain (for the manager's office), and Fontainebleau, France (for the Directors’ Room). The third-floor solarium, now used as a daycare center, is particularly dramatic, with its pediments containing the zodiac and Phoebus Apollo rendered in faience tile. The adjoining Priscilla Lee Bennett house by Bruce Price (1883; 63 N. Franklin Street) is superbly intact, showing his work in lively transition from its Victorian roots to its Shingle Style culmination.
