John Brooks, a local landowner, purchased this farm in 1838, and soon after built the brick Federal-style farmhouse. The five-bay facade has Flemish bond brickwork and a fanlight above the entrance. The interior has a two-over-two floor plan and a long kitchen ell at the rear. Originally, there were interior end chimneys on both the east and west elevations, but the west chimney was removed after an explosion in the nearby Brooks Railroad tunnel damaged the house. The gambrel-roofed barn to the west of the house and a series of frame outbuildings support the working sheep farm. Lamb burgers are sold at the family's restaurant (1961) across the highway.
