As with the 1903 three-story school it replaced, this building continues to serve the community as an activities center and playground area as well as an elementary school. A child-scaled bell tower with a clock evokes some of the memory of the town’s original school, and transom windows in the classrooms take advantage of cooling breezes in the Badlands. The broad horizontality, over-hanging eaves, and low-sloped hipped roofs seem to embed the school in its setting.
