Tucked behind a dune on the lakeshore, this clapboarded wood-frame church with a one-story wing addition is picturesque in its simplicity and isolation. It is the third building to serve the Indian settlement on the site of a Jesuit mission established near here by the French in 1741. A central entrance tower with an open belfry and a spire projects from the simple Gothic Revival building. Pointed-arched windows with double-hung sash pierce the walls. Tongue-and-groove wainscoting and pressed-metal ceiling and walls adorn the interior of the church. In the cemetery adjoining the church on the south, wooden crosses mark the graves of the Ottawa.
