Organized in 1868, the Methodist community replaced its frame building erected in 1872 with this auditorium-plan church in the Mission Revival style popular throughout the country between 1905 and 1920. Spanish design elements found in the church include the cream-colored stucco exterior with brown trim over poured concrete walls, the scalloped coping on its gables, and its tall campanile displaying paired columns on all four sides. The Pine Street facade has a quatrefoil window.

At its dedication, the Cheboygan Democrat for May 26, 1905, described the church as “a beauty, and . . . perfectly fitted up for a modern, progressive society.” Modern and progressive, too, was the selection of the Mission Revival style emerging in California.
