Aigremont is an unusual example of Beaux-Arts residential architecture in the Boston suburbs. With its blocklike massing, crowned by a balustrade on a flat roof, and its grandly scaled porticos on its front and rear, the stuccoed house presents an imposing image. Spectacularly sited at the edge of Myopia Hill, it looks toward the center of the town. Oren C. Sanborn, who built the house, was the son of James Sanborn, one of the founders of Chase and Sanborn, the coffee and tea company. Today the house is owned by the Town of Winchester and is used by the recreation department.
