This three-story limestone barn with double cross-gable has venting cupolas of miniature scale. Though barns of this form are occasionally encountered in the Midwest, this one is by far one of the most handsome in its proportions and in its carefully designed fenestration. Within the barn is a square masonry silo. This stone barn is all that remains of a 3,000-acre farm established in 1873 by two English brothers, William and Charles Fields. Their stock-breeding farm once boasted houses for the two brothers and their families, a private chapel, a schoolhouse, a carriage house, and two other large stone barns.
