Within Orville Christophel Park, at the northwest corner of First Avenue and First Street Southwest, is the Burch Log Cabin (1852). This split-log, one-and-a-half-story cabin was moved to the park in 1941. In the downtown at 110 North Frederick Street is a Streamline Moderne Standard Oil Company Service Station built around 1939 and still very much in use. The community's United States Post Office Building at the southwest corner of First Street Northeast and First Avenue Northeast was designed by the Washington, D.C., office of James A. Wetmore and was built in 1931. This brick-sheathed box was meant to be read as Colonial Revival; the specific historical language used was that of the American Federal style coupled with the English Regency.
