This three-story brick building originally provided convenient lodging for visitors to the county seat. Subsequent owners used the building for such businesses as a restaurant, a bank, a library, and a hardware store. The building's general styling and segmental-arched windows are so similar to the courthouse that both buildings must have had the same designer, or at least the same builder, and been erected at about the same time. The neighboring three-story frame commercial building (late 19th century; 107 E. Main) has also served many purposes. Its long, two-story porch along the side on the rear ell gives access to the several rooms. Across the road, the former First National Bank (1937; 116 E. Main) has had much of its decorative surface stripped away, but is nevertheless the street's only Art Deco building, and one of the few in the region.
