This early log house probably dates from the mid-nineteenth century. Despite some alterations, the small house and its site provide an interesting contrast to the twentieth-century houses (RK56) in the area. Here the logs are hewn, not round, the shape is higher and generally not as long, and the roof pitch is steeper. While easily accessible, the house is sited higher up away from the scenic creek and its attendant insects and dampness. Its owners were more likely battling nature, not retreating to it.
