This tower behind the Cumberland Fire Station is one of many similar structures built in the 1930s to help protect Virginia's forested land from wildfires. The metal-truss tower with metal ladder stairs is approximately seventy-five feet tall and supports a viewing booth at the top with a lightning rod above for protection. The tower is no longer used as a fire lookout and now is a communications tower.
