1904, Carrère and Hastings. 1911, addition, John Kevan Peebles. 9th and E. Grace sts.

Throughout the history of Capitol Square, hotels accounted for the principal commercial activity in the area. The firm of Carrère and Hastings followed its success with the Jefferson Hotel with the more modest Hotel Richmond. The yellow brick and limestone exterior is notably reticent, perhaps a bow to the state capitol across the way. The same year he designed the two-story addition, Peebles designed the Hotel Murphy at 807 East Broad Street. Charles Robinson designed the Commonwealth Suites (formerly Hotel Rueger) at 9th and Bank in 1912.
