Throughout the Fan are a number of neighborhood stores. The buildings are of three basic types: converted town houses, stores with apartments above, and stores with the proprietor's residence to the side. This former pharmacy and residence is of particular interest as one of the early commissions of Noland and Baskervill, who would become one of Richmond's largest and most important architecture firms. Next to the commercial storefront is a fully developed single-bay row house facade that gave the proprietor access to a residence over the commercial space. The third floor contains a loggia. The tile roof is supported on a cornice of modillions.
