1908, Carl Ruehrmund. 1931, additions, Carneal and Johnston. 212–214 E. Clay St.

This brick and stone Renaissance Revival building is an interesting example of a design by prominent white architects for African American clients. Ruehrmund designed the corner portion of the building for the Mechanics Savings Bank, and Carneal and Johnston added the western and rear additions.
