This twenty-six-room Queen Anne mansion was the residence of Reverend R. W. Taylor, president of a Richmond-based African American fraternal organization, the Grand Fountain United Order of True Reformers. Taylor and his organization proved to be major patrons of Lankford, a Washington, D.C.–based African American architect who published a book of his designs in 1916. Much of the decorative detail has been lost from this structure, but Lankford's boldly modeled forms, including a dominant tower and projecting bay window, remain.
