The grandest house on Park Street blends a Romanesque Revival arcade, Queen Anne massing, and a Colonial Revival porch into a harmonious composition. Vandergrift ran a construction company in town and probably got the plans from George Barber or another plan company. Built for Carrie and James Marshall, the house was sold in 1913 to wealthy philanthropist William J. Rucker, who added the south wing in 1930.
