St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church

1899. Toluca Ranch Rd. at FM 1015, approximately 20 miles east of Hidalgo

The steeple of this Gothic Revival church peers through a cluster of trees in faint view from the road. Part of the historic Toluca ranch complex with an Italianate residence (1905, Martin Hanson Jr.), commissary (1908), and family cemetery, the cruciform-plan, buff brick church is preserved with its original clay tile flooring, furnishings, and statuary. Its blue cloth ceiling, a historic architectural trait of the region found in residential and commercial properties, is tautly stretched between its vaulted ribs.
